Europe: Remembrance and New Starts

The Defenestration of Prague and the Peace of Westphalia, the end of World War I and the emergence of numerous independent modern states in Europe: 2018 is indeed a very suitable year to remember Europe’s history – a history that is marked by a series of wars and conflicts. But that is only half the story: 2018 is also – and above all – meant to highlight centuries of progress towards peaceful and cooperative co-existence. After all, all conflicts ended with new departures and hopes.

Our cultural heritage allows us to better understand European history and make it meaningful for us today. Thus, SHARING HERITAGE also stands for sharing one’s own past experiences, for actively investigating and communicating our cultural heritage. The Euroepan Year of Cultural Heritage wants to offer new perspectives on supposedly familiar things.
