People of all cultures are fascinated by stars. They are not only important in astronomy but guide travellers and seafarers on their way. As an ornament, the star comes in many forms. Part of the religious symbolism of Judaism and Islam, it plays a role in Christian belief as the Star of Bethlehem in the Nativity story and Christmas celebrations.
A broad spectrum of vibrant stars from all over Europe is on display at the MEK – both Advent and Christmas stars and others too, ranging from traditional ‘Polish stars’ and illuminated ‘Sebnitz’ or ‘Herrnhuter’ stars for Advent and Christmas to modern design objects.
The exhibition gives background details on how stars are and were made and used.
